Dias Dorados
For this young family relocating from San Francisco to the East Bay, creating a spacious home that’s close to nature was a priority.
With both parents working remotely and young kids (plus a young puppy!) needing space to play, we wanted to ensure that all family members felt comfortable and happy with their new house.
This gorgeous Mediterranean home features high vaulted ceilings in the great room. Though stunning, the challenge we faced was the size- we wanted to utilize the space without crowding it with too much furniture nor leaving it feeling bare. To ensure that this great room felt inviting, we had to go big with everything, which meant a lot of rug layering, doubling on the coffee table, three large chandeliers, a huge sectional that also serves as an in-home movie theater with a projector screen, and lots of big plants.
Another fun challenge was transforming the awkwardly oriented dining room, with an eye-sore of a fireplace, into a library and reading area for the whole family, with a cozy rocking chair and a fun hanging chair. We wanted to highlight the love of this tight-knit family, so we included lots of family portraits around the house, as seen in the kitchen. For accessorizing, we worked with many geometric prints, mud cloth, kilim pillows, and a gorgeous flatweave rug that celebrated the family’s Indian heritage. The result was a beautiful blend of textures and materials—wood, metal, leather, and stunning fabrics and textiles.
