Our client had only two requests: for his house to evoke the feel of a modern mountain lodge with contemporary furniture, shades of grey, and neutrals, and for everything to be cozy, sturdy, and able to withstand a family with two teenagers and a large, unruly puppy!

The Great Room is one of the few rooms that had survived the large early 2000s remodel. With its panoramic bay views, floor-to-ceiling Douglas Fir paneling, and 15-foot brick fireplace, it serves as a dramatic centerpiece and anchor of the house. We strove to connect the white box addition by adding layered warmth and wood to those spaces and prioritized furniture that was both comfortable and low maintenance while maintaining a polished look. The choice of leather dining chairs and kitchen stools, for example, combined those qualities by offering stylish durability. They also seamlessly complemented the dining table and stunning custom-made solid walnut kitchen island, which added strong natural character to both rooms.

We transformed a side room into a phenomenal media room, featuring a custom built-in TV wall unit, a deep and cozy window bench seat for lounging teens, and a state-of-the-art sound system. On both sides of the house, we replaced the old staircases with white oak and steel banisters, supporting the addition of a modern aesthetic throughout the house.

Custom upholstery was used for the numerous banquettes and window seats and the myriad of pillows in all spaces, which added softness and texture in grays, browns, blues, and greens. We mixed the simplicity of solid fabrics with touches of plaid as a contemporary nod toward the classic mountain house aesthetic.

The result was warm, personal, and wonderfully comfortable. We truly enjoyed the challenge, and our client loved the outcome!
